Whispers of death keep her sister alive.
Echoes of ghosts warn her danger is near.
Alyx lost everything in the fire, her family, her home, her freedom, but she discovered something, too: something lurking in the darkness. To protect her from harm, the ghost of her dead sister haunts the walls of the mental institution holding Alyx captive for the last 9 years. But even she
can’t help when patients suddenly act possessed and turn against Alyx, who must find the strength and knowledge to rid them of evil and save their lives.
After a narrow escape from the institution, Transcend welcomes Alyx in with opened arms since she’s the daughter of a former star agent; her mother. They hope to teach her ghost seer abilities to help them keep the leaders of the world in check and give her a normal life. With her fr
iends and newly acquired knowledge, Alyx prepares to battle against evil, but when facing her greatest enemy yet, everything she knows might not be enough to save the people she loves. No matter what her choices, the consequences will be paid in blood – maybe her own.
My review:
Anne Michaud is an excellent storyteller. Her chosen genre is young adult horror and she does an excellent job of capturing the concerns and fears of teens and translating them into thrilling, heart racing and gut-clenching fiction. If you’ve read any of her other novels or story collections, you’ll enjoy this addition. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?
In Whispered Echoes, Alyx has been told from a young age that she’s insane. Sent to an institute for the mentally ill, she’s reasonably content until everything goes horribly wrong. The staff start experimenting on the patients and doing other horrible and unnecessary things.
Alyx’s dead sister is her only hope of escape. The very thing that made everyone tell her she was crazy is what will save her. But her escape isn’t enough. She has to rescue her friends. To do that she’ll need the resources of Transcend. The mysterious organization where her mother worked before her death.
Will they help her? And will she be able to rescue her friends in time to save them? Is she truly crazy or are the ghosts real? She’ll find out hard answers to all of these and find strength within herself to do the impossible.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves young adult or horror.
Thanks so much, J:))))
