Excerpt from Brown and the Sand Dragon:
It was late and we were about to leave when the dragon breathed its small lights out into the night. We waited and before too long a small desert cat chased them back into the clearing, pouncing, trying to catch them. Once the dragon saw the little cat, the small lights stopped dancing and spun around the cat. It yowled in fear and even though it was a cat, I wanted to help it. I wouldn’t wish what happened on anything but a squirrel.
The frightened yowl was cut off and the cat fell limp with strands of something the lights created wrapped around it. The dragon then picked up the small cat and carried it out of sight, long tail sweeping over the sagebrush and flattening it.
The desert cat was nowhere to be seen when the dragon returned and settled into its normal spot.
