MileHi Con and Cover Art

My schedule for MileHi Con. Denver’s oldest (I think) science fiction and fantasy convention.
Be there! http://www.milehicon.org/

Friday… I’m working, so I won’t be there 😦
Saturday:
11am to 12:30pm Speed Meet an Author

2pm to 3pm YA Series we Love or Hate.
7pm to 9pm Fantasy, Magic, Fable and Mythos and Assorted Readings

Sunday:
4pm to 5pm Founding Mothers of Science Fiction.

So, my questions for all of you… what are your favorite and least favorite YA series and why…. and who would you count as the founding mothers of sci fi and fantasy.

And the cover art for the anthology, Brown and the Saloon of Doom will be in.

Have fun at the con. *Very* cool cover.

  2. T. James says:

YA /Fanatsy/Sci-Fi Mothers: Ursula K. LeGuin has been around on the fantasy scene for a while and written some good books, and Anne Rice as she reinvented the vampire that’s become the basis of so many YA paranormal romance books.

  3. Marianne Su says:

Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series (the first one) is still my fave. Have fun at the convention! It looks like fun.

  4. Chrissey Harrison says:

Looks like it’s going to be a great event. I’m conventioning this weekend too, on the other side of the Atlantic at Bristol Con (sci-fi and fantasy). My mates and I have a stand in the small press/dealers room selling comics and pimping our web series.

YA series… a lot of the ones I’ve read have been quite mainstream – Hunger Games (brilliant), Twilight (rant inducing) etc. Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers is a fave, obviously. The Shiver Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater was interesting. Still umming and ahhing about whether it was good.

Mothers of sci-fi and fantasy? I’m a big fan of Jean Auel (Earth’s Children) but whether you’d strictly call her books fantasy, I’m not sure. One author I know of but haven’t read is Anne McCaffrey. I know she’s big in the fantasy genre.

Have fun at the con, hope it all goes well.

    • Chrissey, Thanks! I hope your convention went well. Hope you had lots of sales. Those were all mentioned on the YA panel 🙂 and Twilight got some rants. *giggles* You should give Anne McCaffery a try sometime. Jean Auel could be counted in the fantasy realm.

      Thanks!
      Julie
